Job summary

Qualifications

  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain/maintain a U.S. Government Secret clearance.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in electronics cooling, fluid dynamics, and heat transfer.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience performing design-by-analysis using finite volume or finite difference software for thermal or fluid applications.
  • Experience serving as a program thermal lead on development programs.

Thermal Engineering Manager 2 – Linthicum, MD

Relocation assistance may be available. Clearance required: Secret. Travel: Yes, 10% of the time.

We are looking for a Thermal Engineering Manager 2 to lead a team of thermal, fluid dynamics, and heat transfer analysts supporting the Mission Systems Sector within the Mechanical Technology and Design Services department at Baltimore, MD, located near BWI.

Responsibilities
  • Functional management of a Thermal Design and Analysis group.
  • Technical supervision of thermal design for sensor systems in airborne, space, maritime, and land environments.
  • Ensure people, processes, and tools maintain program cost and schedule performance while meeting thermal and fluid design requirements.
  • Oversee thermal design of sensor systems in varying environments.
  • Attend internal technical reviews and customer reviews, approve analysis/test reports, and conduct thermal trade studies.
  • Develop staffing plans, evaluate staff performance, set goals, drive process improvement, develop roadmaps, and hire to manage analysis demand and skill attrition.
  • Lead through positive change as a champion for improvement and innovation.
  • Maintain employee engagement and development via training, coaching, mentoring, stretch assignments, and engagement action planning.
  • Meet performance goals while considering work/life balance for staff.
  • Build and maintain relationships with direct staff, customers, and cross‑organization partners.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree with 8 years of experience, master’s with 6 years, or Ph.D. with 4 years in STEM or related fields; additional 4 years may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain/maintain a U.S. Government Secret clearance.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in electronics cooling, fluid dynamics, and heat transfer.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience performing design‑by‑analysis using finite volume or finite difference software for thermal or fluid applications.
  • Experience serving as a program thermal lead on one or more development programs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Active U.S. Government Secret clearance.
  • Expertise in electronics thermal management and heat transfer principles.
  • Strong leadership qualities, excellent verbal and written communication, cross‑organization collaboration, team engagement, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated success leading high‑performing teams (e.g., agile, functional management).
  • Advanced degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with a focus on heat transfer and fluid dynamics.
  • At least 2 years of experience with ANSYS Icepak, ANSYS Thermal Desktop, or ANSYS Fluent.
  • Experience leading process improvement or introducing new tool projects.
  • Experience leading IRAD projects, proposals, or thermal TRL advancements.
  • Experience leading a thermal laboratory within budget constraints.
  • Prior experience designing thermal systems, CCAs, and microelectronics‑level thermal designs.
  • Application of advanced convective thermal management and single‑phase or two‑phase thermal design for high‑heat‑flux/high‑power‑density applications using analytical, high‑fidelity, or experimental methods.
Salary

Primary level salary range: $153,800.00 – $230,800.00. Salary offers may vary based on scope, responsibilities, experience, education, and market conditions.
