Job summary

Qualifications

  • 8+ years in electro-mechanical hardware design/manufacturing environments.
  • 6+ years in functional/project leadership roles.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a functional group of ~10–15 mechanical engineers and oversee performance, merit planning, onboarding, and coaching.
  • Foster collaboration and timely information flow within the team.
  • Support project planning, staffing, cost estimation, and design process execution.
  • Guide resources, address obstacles, and meet project objectives.
  • Maintain knowledge of design processes, guidelines, and compliance.
  • Lead department initiatives like process improvement and workforce engagement.
  • Maintain a technical/leadership role with ~80% productive charging.

We are looking for you to join our team as a Mechanical Engineering Manager 2 located in Baltimore, MD.

What You’ll Get To Do
  • Managing a functional group comprised of approximately 10-15 mechanical engineers of varying experience levels, including performance management, merit planning, job assignment management/prioritization, career development, new employee onboarding and coaching.
  • Engaging the functional team with timely flow-down of information and fostering robust collaboration within the team.
  • Collaborating with project team leads, to support project planning and execution activities, labor and material cost estimation, staffing, design process execution, etc.
  • Maintaining awareness of each group member’s project responsibilities and performance, providing guidance, and helping them to identify resources needed to overcome obstacles and meet project objectives.
  • Developing and maintaining a working knowledge of applicable design processes, guidelines, policies, and best practices, and ensuring that all functional team members are aware of and are compliant with these items.
  • Supporting and leading department initiatives, which could include process improvement, workforce engagement, recruiting and interviewing, training material development, technology roadmap development, cross-organization collaboration, etc.
  • Maintain a technical, project leadership, or other program-facing role that provides approximately 80% productive charging.

This position is contingent upon the successful transfer of an active DoD secret clearance.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree with 8 years of experience, master’s degree with 6 years of experience, Ph.D. with 4 years of experience in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics or related technical fields; an additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

  • U.S Citizenship is required.
  • Active U.S Government Secret clearance, with ability to be cleared to TS or higher level.
  • 6 years of demonstrated success in functional management, project management, or similar technical leadership role.
  • 6 years of demonstrated success leading, collaborating, and building teams for complex technical projects.
  • 8 years of experience with the processes, roles, tools and facilities related to development and production of electro-mechanical hardware.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with the design and development of ruggedized electronic hardware for Radar or similar applications, spanning various stages of the product development lifecycle.
  • Familiarity with Northrop Grumman Mission Systems products, processes, tools and resources of relevance to mechanical hardware design team.
  • Experience with Earned Value Management (EVM) & Control
