Job summary

Kimley-Horn is seeking a Mechanical Engineer-In-Training for its Orlando, Florida office. The successful candidate will support the design of HVAC and mechanical systems for various projects including commercial and federal work. Candidates should have a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and at least 2 years of relevant experience.

Job description

Overview

Kimley-Horn's is seeking a Mechanical Engineer-In-Training with 2+ years of experience to join the Orlando, Florida (FL) office's MEP team!

Responsibilities
  • Support the design of HVAC and mechanical systems for commercial, hospitality, municipal, and federal projects
  • Perform HVAC load calculations, ventilation analysis, and assist with system sizing and selection
  • Develop Revit/BIM models and construction documents, including ductwork and piping layouts
  • Assist in preparation of technical specifications and energy compliance documentation (e.g., COMcheck)
  • Coordinate with internal disciplines and support collaboration with architects, contractors, and project teams
  • Conduct field investigations and site visits to document existing conditions and support design development
  • Assist with construction administration tasks such as submittal reviews and responding to RFIs
  • Contribute to project delivery by completing assigned tasks with increasing independence and accountability
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering (ABET accredited)
  • 2+ years of relevant mechanical/HVAC experience
  • EIT/EI certification or ability to obtain
  • Working knowledge of:
    • HVAC systems (load calculations, ductwork, basic system design)
    • Plumbing systems (basic layouts and coordination)
  • Experience with Revit or BIM-based design tools
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage tasks, meet deadlines, and contribute to a team environment
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • 3+ years of experience with increasing responsibility in design and project coordination
    • Experience supporting multiple project types, including commercial, hospitality, municipal, and/or federal sectors
    • Demonstrated growth toward independent task execution and technical problem-solving
