Job summary
Naval Nuclear Laboratory is seeking a mechanical engineer to design and analyze systems supporting spent fuel shipping containers. You will perform mechanical design, FEA, and support a fleet of containers while collaborating with a diverse team of engineers, scientists, managers, and shipyards to advance the program's mission.
You will contribute to iterative design cycles and deliver practical solutions that influence Navy and spent fuel transportation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related field with 4+ years of experience, or master's with 2+ years, or doctorate.
- Alternatively current Advanced Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or RPCO Engineer at the Company.
- Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals and ability to work with cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities
- Perform mechanical system and hardware design for spent fuel shipping containers.
- Conduct finite element analysis and supporting fleet of spent fuel containers.
- Collaborate with engineers, scientists, project managers, and shipyards to support the Naval Reactors program.
- Contribute to design and implementation cycles lasting weeks to months to deliver solutions.
