Job summary

Sonnen Inc in Atlanta is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to lead design of residential energy storage systems (ESS) using LFP chemistry. You will own concepts through production, delivering safe, durable, cost-effective enclosures, packs, and hardware for field installation.

You will collaborate with electrical, power electronics, controls, and manufacturing teams to ensure certification readiness (UL 9540/9540A, NFPA 855) and support testing, DFM/DFA, and supplier coordination to ship reliable

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related field).
• 5+ years of mechanical design experience, preferably in residential energy storage or related power electronics/hardware industries.
• Strong hands-on experience with 3D CAD and FEA tools.
• Solid understanding of enclosure design, sheet metal, weldments, and IP/NEMA ratings.
• Experience with integrating LFP battery packs and thermal management concepts.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design of energy storage components—enclosures, racks, busbars, frames, thermal strategies.
• Develop and review 3D CAD models, drawings, BOMs, tolerances, and manufacturing considerations.
• Design for manufacturability, assembly, and field serviceability in collaboration with manufacturing and supply chain.
• Support thermal management design and ensure compliance with safety standards (UL 9540/9540A, NFPA 855, UL 1973).
• Drive prototype builds, testing, root-cause analysis, and iterative refinements based on data.
