Job summary

Sonnen in Atlanta seeks a Mechanical Engineer to lead design of residential energy storage systems using LFP. You will own concepts through production—enclosures, racks and integrated hardware—collaborating with electrical, thermal and manufacturing teams.

You will perform 3D CAD work and FEA, validate sealing and thermal performance, and ensure safety and compliance with UL 9540/9540A. Strong communication and hands‑on problem solving are essential to deliver safe, reliable storage solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering required; Master's a plus.
• 5+ years of mechanical design experience in energy storage, EV, or related fields.
• Strong CAD experience and FEA proficiency.
• Experience with UL safety standards and enclosure design.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design of energy storage components—enclosures, racks, and integration hardware.
• Develop and review 3D CAD models, drawings, and BOMs; perform tolerance analysis.
• Design for manufacturability and field serviceability; collaborate with manufacturing and supply chain.
• Validate enclosure sealing and ingress protection for weather and dust exposure.
• Perform structural, thermal, and fatigue analyses to ensure design integrity.
• Support thermal management design with cooling concepts and venting considerations.
• Drive prototype builds, testing, and root-cause analysis; iterate based on data.
• Coordinate with external vendors on custom mechanical components and tooling.
• Maintain technical docs, design reviews, and change management records.
