Job summary

Optikos, LLC in Wakefield, MA is seeking an early-career mechanical engineer to design and develop mechanical components and systems for optical projects, and to participate in prototype builds and testing.

You will collaborate with electrical and optical engineers, perform calculations, and create detailed drawings using SolidWorks, while learning on the job in a hands-on, fast-paced environment with a 90+ person team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.
• 2+ years of mechanical engineering experience, preferably including customer interactions and optical system design experience.
• SolidWorks experience with detailed part and assembly drawings; SolidWorks certification is a plus.
• Familiarity with PLM workflows to control design revisions.
• Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing to ensure form, fit, and function.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies, and systems using CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
• Perform engineering calculations and analyses (stress, thermal, tolerance) to validate designs.
• Create detailed drawings and specifications for manufacturing and assembly.
• Collaborate with electrical and optical engineers to integrate mechanical designs into complete systems.
• Support prototype builds, testing, and troubleshooting to ensure product performance.
• Evaluate materials and manufacturing processes for cost-effectiveness and reliability.
• Maintain documentation and ensure compliance with applicable standards and regulations.
• Provide technical support to production and quality teams during product launch and lifecycle.
