Job summary

Optikos, LLC. seeks an experienced mechanical design engineer to lead opto-mechanical architectures from concept to development. You will design components and assemblies using SolidWorks/AutoCAD, develop detailed drawings and BoMs, and document testing protocols.

You will collaborate with optical and electrical engineers to integrate optics into larger systems, evaluate trade-offs, and translate customer requirements into technical specs. Wakefield, MA in-office role.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and 10+ years in design, analysis, integration, and testing.
• Proficient with CAD/FEA tools (SolidWorks, Ansys) for design and simulation.
• Ability to influence cross-functional engineering decisions and document results.
• Hands-on mindset with strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Strong written communication for tests, instructions, and reports.

Responsibilities

• Own the mechanical architecture from concept to development of full opto-mechanical systems.
• Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies, and systems using CAD tools.
• Develop detailed drawings, BoMs, and test documentation.
• Collect and analyze experimental data to support design verification.
• Collaborate with optical/electrical engineers to integrate optics into systems.
• Guide trade-offs affecting performance, cost, reliability, and schedule.
• Translate customer requirements into technical specifications.
• Provide input to sales for quotes and statements of work.
