Job summary

Amentum Nuclear Projects in Oak Ridge, TN seeks a Mid-Level Mechanical Engineer to lead design, coordination, and delivery of building mechanical systems for industrial and government facilities. You will oversee HVAC, plumbing, and piping designs and mentor engineers and designers while ensuring code compliance and quality throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

• B.S. Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited program
• Minimum 5+ years in industrial/government design of Mechanical, HVAC, Plumbing Systems
• Experience delivering projects from concept through detailed design
• Proven ability to lead teams within budget and schedule constraints
• Familiar with applicable codes and standards (e.g., IMC, NFPA, ASHRAE)
• U.S. citizenship is required

Responsibilities

• Perform design of HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems, including process piping where applicable
• Serve as technical authority for mechanical design within project scope
• Review, approve, and check calculations, layouts, specifications, and drawings
• Apply advanced engineering judgment to resolve complex design issues
• Support project planning: scope definition, equipment sizing, schedule & budget control
• Coordinate mechanical designs with structural, electrical, architectural, and process disciplines
• Ensure compliance with codes and procedures and interfaces with clients and stakeholders
• Provide senior-level support during procurement and construction phases (RFIs, submittals, field issues)
• Mentor engineers and designers on codes and best practices
• Ensure work complies with engineering and quality procedures
