Job summary

Amentum is seeking a senior mechanical engineer in Oak Ridge to lead the design and delivery of building mechanical systems for complex government and industrial facilities. You will oversee HVAC, plumbing, and piping designs, guide engineering teams, and ensure high-quality, code-compliant solutions throughout the project lifecycle.

Ideal candidates have 15+ years of relevant experience, a PE license, and proficiency with AutoCAD/MicroStation and industry tools.

Qualifications

• Meet the minimum education and PE licensure requirements.
• 15+ years in industrial/government mechanical design including HVAC, plumbing, and related systems.
• Proven ability to lead engineers and designers within budget and schedule.
• Experience delivering projects from concept to detailed design.
• Proficiency with the listed design tools and industry codes.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design of HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems on complex projects.
• Act as technical authority for mechanical design within project scope.
• Review calculations, layouts, specifications, and drawings.
• Coordinate with other disciplines and ensure code compliance.
• Provide senior-level support during procurement and construction phases.
• Mentor engineers and ensure adherence to quality procedures.
