Job summary

AeroVironment, Inc. is seeking a Mechanical Engineer I to join the design team developing next-generation UAV systems. You will handle all design stages from concept to detailed design and prototype testing, including component design, assembly, and tooling.

The role emphasizes hands-on prototyping, collaboration, and adherence to aerospace design standards in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or equivalent.
0-2 years designing complex mechanical systems with demonstrated hardware transition.
Experience designing machined, composite, plastic injection molded, sheet metal, wire, and mechanical assemblies.
Hands-on building/prototyping experience for lightweight miniature robotic systems or similar.
Experience designing electro-mechanical systems with thermodynamic constraints.
Competence in mechanical engineering processes and design/analysis tools.
Proficient in SolidWorks and MS Office; knowledge of ASME Y14 standards.

Responsibilities

Designs structural components, electro-mechanical systems, payloads, ground equipment, launch/flight control actuators, thermal analysis, prototypes.
Uses CAD (SolidWorks), simulation tools (SolidWorks Simulation, ANSYS), and rapid prototyping (3D printing).
Develops manufacturing drawings and BOMs, supports design reviews, assists planning and scheduling, and aids manufacturing/suppliers.
Performs other duties as assigned.
