Job summary

AeroVironment, Inc. in the United States, is seeking a Sr. Mechanical Engineer to design, analyze, and test UAV systems and subsystems. You will contribute across concept to detailed design, building and testing hardware within a design team.

The role requires hands-on experience with lightweight robotic systems, electro-mechanical design, and creating engineering drawings per ASME Y14.100 standards using SolidWorks. You will work in a fast-paced environment with cross-functional collaboration.

Qualifications

• 5–8 years designing complex mechanical systems with hardware transition.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
• Experience designing machined, composite, plastic injection molded, sheet metal parts, wire and mechanical assemblies.
• Hands-on prototyping for lightweight robotic systems or similar.
• Design electro-mechanical systems with thermodynamic constraints.
• Proficient in engineering drawings per ASME Y14 standards; SolidWorks and MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Design structural components, electro-mechanical designs, payloads, ground equipment and launch systems.
• Read blueprints and schematics; assist planning and scheduling of engineering work.
• Collaborate with engineers to implement procedures and resolve malfunctions.
• Create manufacturing drawings and BOMs for components and assemblies.
• Evaluate feasibility, cost and maintenance of designs from proposals and data.
• Support design reviews and coordinate with manufacturing and suppliers.
• Solve a broad range of issues; meet project schedule and budget.
• Research alternative solutions and guide junior engineers.
