Job summary

AeroVironment in Huntsville, AL seeks a Mechanical Engineer III to join a design team developing next-generation UAV systems. You will design, analyze, test and modify mechanical subsystems and tools, from concept to detailed design, and contribute to building and validating prototype hardware.

The role requires 5–8 years of mechanical design experience, a Bachelor’s in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, proficiency with SolidWorks and ASME Y14 standards, and hands-on prototyping.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or equivalent required.
• Experience designing machined, composite, plastic injection molded, sheet metal and wire assemblies.
• Hands-on building/prototyping experience with lightweight robotic systems or similar.
• Experience with electro-mechanical systems under thermodynamic constraints.
• Proficient with mechanical engineering processes and design/analysis tools.
• Experience creating engineering drawings in compliance with ASME Y14.100/ Y14.5; SolidWorks and MS Office proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Designs structural components, electro-mechanical systems, payloads, ground equipment, launching systems and actuators.
• Reads blueprints and schematics; assists with planning and scheduling of engineering work.
• Collaborates to implement procedures, resolve malfunctions and provide technical information.
• Develops manufacturing drawings and BOMs for components and assemblies.
• Evaluates designs by researching data, feasibility, cost and maintenance implications.
• Supports design reviews, planning with project managers, and supplier production.
• Resolves issues creatively while following policies; completes tasks on schedule.
