Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Mechanical Engineer in Decatur, AL to design and deliver mechanically operated equipment for new and existing projects. You will create detailed 2D/3D drawings, develop fabrication and field installation drawings, and manage BOMs and submittals while coordinating with engineering, CAD, purchasing, and field teams.

The role emphasizes strong drawing quality, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects with travel up to 34 days per month.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical preferred).
• 35 years of relevant engineering experience.
• Proficiency with CAD software (SolidWorks, MicroStation or AutoCAD).
• Strong knowledge of mechanical systems and components.
• Experience creating detailed drawings and BOMs.
• Travel approximately 34 days per month.

Responsibilities

• Design mechanically operated equipment and systems for new and existing projects.
• Create detailed 2D and 3D CAD drawings for mechanical parts, assemblies, and systems.
• Develop fabrication and field installation drawings to support manufacturing and on-site work.
• Prepare and maintain submittals, BOMs, procurement documents, and closeout documentation.
• Coordinate with engineering, CAD, purchasing, fabrication, project management, and field teams.
• Review drawings for accuracy and compliance with standards.
• Create purchase requisitions and track material deliveries.
• Support project schedules and ensure deliverables meet budget and timeline.
• Provide regular project status updates and participate in meetings.
• Perform drawing quality checks with attention to detail.
• Manage multiple projects and deadlines; travel to job sites as needed.
