Job summary

AMERICAN in Birmingham, AL seeks a Design Engineer to develop new plant equipment designs and transform concepts into drawings and specs. The role coordinates procurement and provides technical guidance during startup and maintenance, while training coworkers in the design process.

This position blends office and plant work, with exposure to varying weather conditions and travel as needed. A strong CAD and engineering foundation is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from ABET-accredited program.
• Ability to learn and work with CAD/drafting equipment.
• Strong written and verbal communication across levels.
• Willingness to travel and work in plant environments.
• Experience reading and interpreting specifications and drawings.

Responsibilities

• Develop and document new and alternative plant equipment designs.
• Create detailed drawings, specifications and BOMs.
• Coordinate equipment procurement for projects with vendors.
• Provide technical guidance and training to operating departments.
• Assist startup and maintenance with design support.
• Maintain CAD systems and office computers; support software training.
• Plan, schedule, and estimate projects; review drawings for quality.
