MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the necessary knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

• Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering field; At least 3-10 years relevant experience for an Associate Engineer and 10+ years for a Senior Engineer.

License/Certificate/Registration Requirements:

• Driver's License: Possession of a valid California Class C Driver License may be required at the time of appointment. Failure to obtain or maintain such required license(s) may be cause for disciplinary action. Individuals with a physical disability will be considered for accommodation on a case-by-case basis.
• Possession and proof of a good driving record for at least two (2) years.
• Possession of a valid Certificate of Registration as a Mechanical Engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration.

Job Description:

Under general direction of the Engineering Manager, the Mechanical Engineer performs technical field and office engineering work related to various activities, programs, and facilities. Responsible for mechanical design and engineering support for installation, modification, maintenance, and testing of mechanical systems and equipment. Coordinates major repairs, modifications, or testing with various agencies and divisions within the Authority. Provides administrative duties including departmental maintenance and operations coordination.

Examples of Duties:

• Develops cost estimates, designs, plans, and specifications for repair, maintenance, monitoring, and construction projects.
• Reviews troubleshooting data and recommends repairs.
• Updates electronic drawings and technical documentation.
• Prepares requests for proposals and manages projects.
• Participates in development and management of long-term projects.
• Represents the Authority in coordination with external agencies.
• Prepares reports, studies, and budget estimates.
• Participates in continuous improvement efforts.

Knowledge of:

Principles of mechanical engineering, design, maintenance, project management, applicable codes and standards, and relevant software.

Ability to:

Read blueprints, design projects, analyze data, create drawings, manage projects, communicate effectively, and work under pressure.
