Job summary

Centrus Energy seeks a Mechanical Design Engineer in Minnesota to design and upgrade piping systems, perform sizing for pumps/valves/heaters, and provide field support. You will work under mentors, progressing to owning projects with growing autonomy.

Responsibilities include drafting drawings, conducting analyses, and ensuring safety and QA compliance in industrial environments. Relevant ASME/OSHA training is encouraged.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• ASME code familiarity and piping-stress fundamentals encouraged.
• 2+ years hands-on mechanical design experience in piping/fluids in industrial settings.
• Experience sizing equipment: pumps, valves, exchangers, and related components.
• Familiarity with pressure-drop, pipe-stress concepts, and basic structural checks.
• Working knowledge of codes/standards (ASME, welding procedures).
• Exposure to drafting/analysis tools like AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CFD/FEA, or piping-stress software.

Responsibilities

• Design, modify, and layout facility piping systems with component sizing.
• Create, update, and redline mechanical/piping drawings and specs.
• Perform pressure-drop, flow, and basic thermal calculations; assist CFD/FEA analyses.
• Conduct pipe-stress checks and safety reviews; support hazard analyses and QA.
• Prepare ROMs, equipment lists, and technical evaluations for procurement.
• Support field tests, inspections, and commissioning under senior staff guidance.
