Job summary

University Mechanical & Engineering Contractors, Inc. (CA) is seeking an experienced Mechanical Construction Project Manager for our San Diego, CA location.

The role leads mechanical construction projects safely on time and within budget across Healthcare, Life Science, Commercial, and Industrial markets, backed by nearly a century of customer care. Core duties include safety of field personnel, project financials, procurement, and owner/client relations, with strong emphasis on BIM capabilities

Qualifications

  • Requires 5–7 years construction work experience and/or a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Construction Management.
  • Ability to manage safety, schedule, and budget for multiple projects.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure safety of field personnel on assigned projects.
  • Manage field labor productivity and quality assurance.
  • Oversee project budgeting, cash flow, and reporting.
  • Coordinate material procurement, change orders, and owner/client relations.

Job Summary

University Mechanical is currently seeking an experienced Mechanical Construction Project Manager for our San Diego, CA location. UMEC offers industry-leading building information modeling (BIM) capabilities, design/build services, sustainable solutions, commercial HVAC services, and complex mechanical and industrial system installations. This position will lead mechanical construction projects safely on time and within budget for various markets including Healthcare, Life Science, Commercial, Industrial and a wide range of other markets.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The Project Manager has the following duties which include safety of UMEC field personnel assigned to the projects, field labor productivity, quality assurance and coordination, project financial outcome, projections and reporting, material and equipment procurement, change order management, owner/client relations, project cash flow, and personnel management. Comply with all company operating policies, procedures, executed plans, and programs. Other duties may be assigned. Managers are responsible for directing and overseeing the work activities of their direct reports and to be available during the hours that any direct reports are working.

Computer Skills

Able to effectively operate the following computer software programs:

  • Microsoft (Excel, Works, Project, Access, and Powerpoint)
  • Bluebeam Revu PDF editing
  • Vista-Viewpoint (Project Management & Accounting Software)
  • Quotesoft Estimating Software
Required Attributes
  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Must prioritize in a fast paced, multi-task environment.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to perform basic business mathematical functions.
  • Must work with minimal supervision.
  • Must effectively manage time and details.
  • Must interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Must have organizational skills in handling & archiving technical data.
  • Must comply with all operating policies, procedures, plans, and programs.

To perform this job successfully, the individual must have 5-7 years construction work-related experience and/or bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Construction Management, and be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
