Job summary

Leidos Defense is seeking a Mechanical / Cable Designer to connect advanced hardware with robust cable systems. The role focuses on mechanical design, GD&T, and creating data packages for parts and assemblies, with emphasis on 3D routing in Creo/SolidWorks and cable design in Visio/AutoCAD.

The candidate should have a degree in mechanical or electrical engineering (or equivalent experience), be able to work on-site in Huntsville, and be eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or Associate’s degree with 2+ years of relevant experience or 4+ years of relevant experience in lieu of degree.
• Proficient in Creo Parametric or SolidWorks; experience in both preferred.
• 2D drawing experience using SolidWorks or Creo.
• Ability to work onsite at a Leidos facility and independently with limited supervision.

Responsibilities

• Support the design and development of mechanical components and assemblies.
• Create and maintain Technical Data Package (TDP) artifacts, including drawings, BOMs, and specifications.
• Develop mechanical designs with consideration for functionality, manufacturability, assembly, inspection, and producibility.
• Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5 and drawing standards.
• Support prototype fabrication, assembly, integration, and testing activities; troubleshoot issues with senior engineers.
• Route electrical cables / wire harnesses using Creo and SolidWorks.
• Develop cable designs using Visio and AutoCAD, considering connector, backshell, wiring, and protective covering.
• Produce cable installation drawings and work instructions from 3D routed cable models in Creo and SolidWorks.
• Independently manage tasks and projects with guidance from senior engineers.
• Participate in design reviews, peer reviews, drawing reviews, and other technical meetings.
