Job summary

Smith Turf & Irrigation LLC is seeking a Set-up Mechanic to assemble and prep new commercial golf and grounds equipment. You will perform inspections, operate hydraulic and electrical checks, and ensure products are clean and ready for sale.

You must have diesel repair experience and be able to lift up to 75 pounds. The role involves collaboration with the Service Advisor and Shop Foreman and requires safety-focused, detail-oriented work in a busy shop environment.

Qualifications

• Experience in a service repair, diesel mechanic shop is required.
• Ability to read and analyze documents and procedure manuals.
• Must be able to routinely lift up to 75 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Uncrate, assemble, and prep new and demo equipment according to manufacturer standards.
• Perform initial inspections, including fluid checks, safety checks, and adjustments to hydraulic and electrical systems.
• Maintain cleanliness of finished products.
• Perform minor adjustments and light equipment service, including oil changes and filter replacements.
• Set up cutting units and adjust height-of-cut.
• Recondition used or lease returned equipment for resale.
• Coordinate parts with the Service Advisor and Shop Foreman.
• Maintain accurate records for repairs, service work orders, inventory and tagging.
• Maintain personal tools and a clean, safe work area.
• Operate forklift to move equipment between shop and yard.

Position Overview:

Set-up mechanics are responsible for the assembly of new commercial equipment used in the golf, sports field and grounds industry. They play a critical role in upholding our reputation for exceeding our customers’ expectations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Uncrate, assemble, and prep new and demo equipment according to manufacturer standards
• Perform initial inspections, including fluid checks, safety checks, and adjustments to hydraulic and electrical systems typical for a mechanic role
• Responsible for the cleanliness of finished products
• Performs minor adjustments and light equipment service, including but not limited to, oil changes, air filters, fuel filter replacement, simple blade sharpening common to diesel mechanic work
• Set up cutting units and adjusting height-of-cut
• Minor reconditioning of used or lease returned equipment for resale
• Works with the Service Advisor and Shop Foreman to order parts as needed
• Responsible for maintaining accurate records for repairs, service work orders, inventory and tagging and identifying parts for warranty
• Responsible for maintaining personal tools, work area, shop and shop tools
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized service area, following all safety regulations
• Operating forklift to move equipment between the shop and yard
