Job summary

Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is seeking a Transportation Technician to inspect construction materials, oversee testing, and monitor field operations within District 1. This role supports quality assurance and contract compliance on major transportation projects across the region.

The position emphasizes accurate documentation, calibration checks of equipment, and interpretation of plans and blueprints to ensure the correct materials are used in projects.

Qualifications

• One year of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work.
• One year of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics.
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Responsibilities

• Material Inspection: Verify materials meet specifications and document accordingly.
• Testing Oversight: Observe tests and ensure compliance with PTM, AASHTO, ASTM standards.
• Field Monitoring: Observe construction to ensure contract requirements are followed.
• Documentation Review: Enter data into eCAMMS and maintain sampling/testing records.
• Equipment Verification: Check calibration of Department and vendor equipment.
• Plan Interpretation: Read project plans to confirm correct materials.
