Job summary

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Department of Transportation seeks a Materials Technician 1 to support testing and evaluation of materials used in transportation projects. You will prepare samples, conduct laboratory tests, and document results to ensure quality and safety of road materials.

You will gain hands-on lab experience, work 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday–Friday, with no telework option, contributing to statewide projects that impact public safety across Pennsylvania.

Qualifications

• One year of experience in testing materials used in highway/bridge construction or an associate degree.
• Ability to prepare material samples and perform standard lab tests with accuracy.
• Commitment to maintaining a clean, safe laboratory environment and proper documentation.

Responsibilities

• Sample preparation following established testing procedures.
• Perform laboratory tests per AASHTO, ASTM, and PA methods.
• Accurately record test results and maintain equipment calibration.
• Keep workspaces clean and support a safe lab environment.
