Job summary

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, District 1 Materials Unit, is seeking a Transportation Construction Inspector to help ensure the quality of materials used in major transportation projects across the region.

You will inspect asphalt, concrete, and aggregate operations, review testing procedures, verify shipments and plant documentation, and record results in eCAMMS and related systems.

Qualifications

• One year as an Engineering Technician or two/three years in related inspection roles.
• Associate degree in civil/engineering fields or closely related technology.
• Experience reading blueprints, plans, and construction drawings.
• Ability to document testing results and escalate issues promptly.

Responsibilities

• Observe and review testing procedures at asphalt, concrete, and aggregate plants.
• Verify shipments, weigh slips, and ensure materials meet specifications.
• Record sampling/testing information and report issues to supervisors.
• Review testing methods for procedures like extraction, gradation, air content, slump, and unit weights.
• Enter inspection data into electronic systems such as eCAMMS.
• Provide field support for material reviews, core drilling, and onsite inspections.
