3062: Engineering Technician III

General Responsibilities:

Perform field and/or laboratory testing, observation, and inspection of construction materials (e.g., soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, and steel). Communicate with project managers, engineering technicians, client representatives, contractors, and others regarding the construction site, project requirements, testing, observation, inspection, and results. Transport material samples with documentation to the laboratory for testing and analysis. Prepare and submit data and observations in reports for daily transmittal to the Terracon Project Manager. Maintain and clean equipment, vehicles, and work areas. Assist with scheduling and dispatch of technicians to project sites. Adhere to safety standards.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

1. Perform testing, observation, and inspection as directed according to training and procedures.
2. Document findings and results clearly.
3. Perform basic data analysis to verify accuracy before submission.
4. Communicate information to the Project Manager and personnel as directed.
5. Have experience in multiple areas of field and laboratory testing.
6. Train lower level technicians if needed.
7. Lead activities of other technicians on projects or in the laboratory.
8. Maintain equipment and calibration.
9. Follow safety rules, report safety issues, and perform pre-task planning.
10. Maintain quality standards on all projects.

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 3-5 years of relevant experience or equivalent training.
• Experience with laptops, Microsoft Word, and Excel.

Materials Certifications:

• ACI certifications such as Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I, Concrete Strength Testing Technician, or Radiation Safety/Nuclear Density Gauge operation.
• Completion of internal safety certifications.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.

Preferred Certifications:

• NICET Level II in Construction Materials Testing or Geotechnical categories.
• ICC certifications in categories like Reinforced Concrete, Structural Steel, etc.
• AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI).
• ASNT Level II in areas like VT, MT, PT, RT, UT.
• Other relevant certifications as deemed appropriate.
