Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a Construction Materials Engineering and Laboratory Testing Intern for Summer 2027 to work out of our San Diego, CA office. This full-time, 12-week internship is for students currently enrolled in an Undergraduate or Graduate civil engineering program.

You will assist with materials testing, project research, field work, and documentation, while learning testing concepts and project design basics under senior engineers. Note: no relocation or housing assistance is provided.

Qualifications

• Actively enrolled in an accredited Civil Engineering undergraduate program with anticipated graduation Aug 2027 or later.
• Must be 18 years or older and authorized to work in the United States.
• Demonstrated interest in Civil Engineering and ability to communicate with engineering and non-engineering audiences.
• Capable of taking direction from leadership and mentors to execute projects.
• Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, and tools.
• Capable of lifting and manipulating up to 30 pounds.
• Uphold workplace safety and follow health, safety, and conduct policies.
• Authorization to work in the United States at internship start.

Responsibilities

• Support a variety of tasks to develop technical, social, and ethical skills.
• Learn engineering materials properties and laboratory testing basics.
• Assist with project research, field work, and preliminary design calculations and analysis.
• Assist in collecting and maintaining project documentation.
• Complete training on assigned tasks.
• Adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related safety policies.
