Job summary

Electronic Power Design, Inc. is seeking a dependable Material Handler to support fabrication and manufacturing operations in Houston. The role involves transporting and staging materials for electrical switchboards and related equipment, while ensuring accurate inventory and timely delivery to operators.

You will assist with loading, unloading, and basic production tasks, maintaining safety and organization, and supporting continuous improvement in material flow across the shop floor.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1–2 years material handling, warehouse, or general labor experience preferred.
  • Experience operating forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks, or similar equipment.
  • Ability to read work orders and follow written/verbal instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Transport, organize, stage, and distribute materials for fabrication and production.
  • Assist with inventory tracking, replenishment, and stock organization.
  • Verify material allocations and ensure correct materials reach operators and technicians.

The Opportunity:

We are seeking a dependable and safety-focused Material Handler to support our Fabrication Department and manufacturing operations. This role is responsible for transporting, organizing, staging, and distributing materials that support the production of electrical switchboards, motor control centers, and related equipment. What You’ll Do:

Material Handling & Inventory Support

  • Transport raw materials, components, and finished parts throughout the fabrication shop and manufacturing facility.
  • Organize, stage, and distribute materials based on work orders, production schedules, and operational priorities.
  • Verify material allocations and ensure the correct materials are delivered to operators and technicians.
  • Assist with inventory tracking, replenishment activities, and stock organization.
  • Report inventory shortages, damaged materials, or discrepancies to supervisors promptly.

Production & Fabrication Support

  • Assist fabrication operators and technicians by preparing and delivering materials needed for production.
  • Support loading and unloading activities for fabrication equipment, including press brakes, laser machines, and welding operations.
  • Perform basic production support tasks such as deburring, grinding, cleaning, and part preparation under supervision.
  • Collaborate with production teams to maintain workflow efficiency and meet production deadlines.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives that improve material flow and operational efficiency.

Safety, Quality & Workplace Organization

  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas throughout the facility.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Inspect materials for visible defects, damage, or quality concerns before distribution.
  • Report material, equipment, or safety issues immediately to supervisors.
  • Support workplace organization initiatives and 5S standards that promote efficiency and safety.
  • Maintain accurate records of material movements, inventory transactions, and production support activities.
  • Complete required documentation, including material receipts, work orders, and shipping records.
  • Collaborate with Fabrication, Production, Inventory, and Quality teams to support manufacturing objectives.
  • Participate in team meetings, safety discussions, and departmental improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with maintaining inventory accuracy and traceability throughout the manufacturing process.

What You Bring:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in material handling, warehouse operations, manufacturing, or general labor environments preferred.
  • Experience operating forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks, or other material handling equipment.
  • Ability to read work orders and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods.
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to workplace safety, quality, and reliability.
  • Willingness to learn and contribute in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods while conducting audits and facility inspections.
  • Ability to safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to lift bulky or awkwardly shaped items weighing up to 35 pounds from floor level or above shoulder height.
  • Ability to safely perform team lifts for items exceeding individual lifting limits or involving ergonomic challenges such as uneven weight distribution or repetitive motion.
  • Ability to work effectively in varying environmental conditions, including heat and cold exposure.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • OSHA 10-Hour General Industry certification preferred.
  • Experience working in fabrication, manufacturing, or industrial production environments.
  • Familiarity with inventory management systems or ERP software, preferably Global Shop ERP.
  • Knowledge of material staging, inventory control, and warehouse best practices.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
