Job summary

The High Point Fire Department seeks a skilled Emergency Vehicle Maintenance Technician to diagnose, repair, and service fire apparatus and related equipment. You will work independently under supervision of the Chief Mechanic and support 24-hour emergency readiness.

Responsibilities include electrical and diesel engine work, preventive maintenance, parts procurement, and record keeping. A valid NC Class A CDL within one year is required, with on-the-job training and EVT certifications pursued

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED or equivalent.
  • Ability to complete on-the-job training (3–6 months).
  • Must obtain EVT F-1&2, ASE T-4&5 certifications within two years of hire.
  • Must obtain forklift/tow motor operator license within six months.
  • Must obtain North Carolina Class A CDL Driver's License within one year.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnoses mechanical problems on fire apparatus and initiates repairs.
  • Repairs, overhauls, and maintains firefighting equipment.
  • Repairs diesel engines and fabricates assemblies for hydraulics and controls.
  • Performs electrical work and preventive maintenance on equipment.
  • Inspects vehicles for safety and maintains records and parts inventory.
