Job summary

The GBS Group seeks a Navigation Systems Technician (ET Tech) to join our Virginia Beach Engineering Office. The role involves supporting shipboard IC Systems, C5RA/TSRA/INSURV programs, and providing technical oversight on maintenance actions at Naval facilities and ships. The candidate will work with Navy systems and support teams in a fast-paced, mission-focused environment.

Required: ET training from a U.S. Navy C school, 6+ years in related systems, and an active Secret clearance.

Qualifications

  • Formal Electronic Technician (ET) training from a Technical or U.S. Navy C school.
  • Minimum of 6+ years in installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of IBNS, IBS, S-IBS, NAVSSI, AN/URN-25 & 32 TACAN, and Inertial Navigation System.
  • Three years of recent hands-on experience on each listed system.
  • Active Secret Security Clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support for shipboard IC Systems tasks and related assessments/operations.
  • Comply with engineering documentation, plans, specifications and test procedures.
  • Assist Ships Force technicians and government personnel to analyze and resolve malfunctions.
  • Observe equipment checks, note readings, and oversee corrective maintenance actions.
  • Provide effective written and verbal communication; pursue continuous improvement.
  • Develop technical data for PM systems, manuals, procedures, and maintainability improvements.
  • Provide on-the-job training to Ships Force during shipboard evolutions.
  • Suggest engineering changes to improve quality and reliability.

Overview Navigation System Technician (ET Tech)

The GBS Group supports the Navy at NSWC and RMC’s. Our office is located at 2696 Reliance Drive, Suite 100, Virginia Beach, Va, just east of Lynnhaven mall off of International Drive.

Brief Description

The GBS Group, an engineering services and consulting firm, is seeking a Navigation Systems Technician (ET Tech) to join our Virginia Beach Engineering Office. The GBS Group designs and delivers high technology services and solutions to most advanced naval and maritime ships, as well as to special purpose platforms and assets. The GBS Group supports the Navy at NSWC and RMC’s. Our office is located at 2696 Reliance Drive, Suite 100, Virginia Beach, Va, just east of Lynnhaven mall off of International Drive.

Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To
  • Provide support for shipboard IC Systems tasks including Pre INSURV Assessment (PIA), Combat Systems, Command, Control, Communications and Computer Readiness Assessment (C5RA), Total Ship Readiness Assessment (TSRA), Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP), Inspection and Survey (INSURV) programs and Tech Assist (T/A) events.
  • Comply with engineering documentation standards, engineering plans, and system specifications and test procedures.
  • Assist Ship's Force technicians and government personnel at assigned locations to analyze and resolve malfunctions detected during equipment operation and test.
  • The contractor shall observe/conduct equipment checks, note condition and parameters for any out of specification readings or settings, as requested. The assigned personnel will conduct technical oversight on corrective maintenance actions.
  • Provide effective written and verbal communication and strives for continuous improvement.
  • Develop technical/engineering data for Planned Maintenance Systems, technical manuals, trouble-shooting procedures, drawing updates, operation procedures, and maintainability improvements.
  • Provide on the job training to Ships Force during any shipboard evolutions.
  • Suggest equipment/system engineering changes toward improving quality and reliability and to facilitate installation, maintenance and repair.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Candidates must possess the following professional experience and qualifications:

  • Formal Electronic Technician (ET) training from a Technical or U.S. Navy "C" school and 6 plus years of job-related experience.
  • Minimum of 6 (six) experience in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of Integrated Bridge Navigation System (IBNS), Integrated Bridge System (IBS), Scalable Integrated Bridge System (S-IBS), NAVSSI, AN/URN-25 & 32 Tactical Air Navigation (TACAN) System, AN/WSN-7 Inertial Navigation System.
  • Technician shall demonstrate a minimum of three (3) years recent hands- on experience on each of the above listed systems.
  • Knowledge of Navy assessment programs, visit processes and reporting methods for visits.
  • Active Secret Security Clearance

  • Must be able to see color to discern color-coded wiring.
  • Prolonged periods standing, kneeling, bending, and climbing ladders or scaffolding.
  • Must be physically capable of pulling wires and cables through conduits.
  • Must wear safety gear, such as goggles and gloves, hard hats, etc. as required
  • Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the (Naval/ Maritime) facility and/or ship
  • Ability to work under stress and meet deadlines
