Job summary

Arc is building electric propulsion for marine vessels and is seeking a Mechanical Systems Engineer to own thermal and fluid systems, validate components with analysis and testing, and collaborate with naval architects on hull-to-machinery integration.

You will release drawings, GD&T, BOMs, and drive DFMA with manufacturing and supply chain, while supporting USCG/ABS compliance and coordinating bench, dock, and on-water tests. Travel up to 15%.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Marine, Ocean, Aerospace Engineering, Naval Architecture, or related engineering discipline.
  • 3+ years designing and releasing mechanical systems for production (thermal/structural/fluids).
  • Experience owning a design through build, test, and iteration.
  • Hands-on structural and thermal analysis (FEA) and hand calculations.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD and GD&T; experience with PDM/PLM workflows.
  • Ability to work hands-on in the shop and on the water; occasional sea trials.
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull ~50 lbs; able to access ITAR-controlled information.

Responsibilities

  • Own thermal and fluid systems across the vessel, including cooling loops, pumps, plumbing, bilge, and ventilation.
  • Run structural and thermal analysis to size and validate components before build.
  • Collaborate with naval architects on hull-to-machinery integration and packaging.
  • Release drawings, GD&T, BOMs; drive DFMA with manufacturing and supply chain.
  • Build and execute test plans on bench, dock, and water; feed data back into design changes.
  • Partner with electrical/controls engineers to integrate Arc's powertrain into vessels.
  • Support marine propulsion and drivetrain design, including shafting, mounts, seals, bearings, steering hardware.
  • Support USCG and ABS compliance; evaluate suppliers for critical hardware.
  • Up to 15% travel.
