Job summary

Arc in Los Angeles, CA, seeks a Mechanical Engineer to own thermal and fluid systems for marine propulsion. You will run structural and thermal analyses, collaborate with naval architects on hull-to-machinery integration, and drive DFM/DFA with manufacturing and supply chain.

You’ll release drawings, GD&T, BOMs, and support testing from bench to water. The role requires hands-on shipboard work, 3+ years in mechanical design for production, proficiency with SolidWorks/NX/CATIA, and a U.S.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Marine, Ocean, Aerospace Engineering or Naval Architecture
  • 3+ years designing and releasing mechanical systems for production (thermal, fluid, or structural)
  • Experience owning a design through build, test, and iteration
  • Hands-on structural and thermal analysis (FEA and hand calculations)
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD (SolidWorks, NX, or CATIA), GD&T, and PDM/PLM workflows
  • Ability to work hands-on in the shop and on the water; lift 50 lbs
  • U.S. person under ITAR as defined

Responsibilities

  • Own thermal and fluid systems across the vessel (cooling loops, pumps, plumbing, bilge, ventilation)
  • Run structural and thermal analyses to size and validate components before build
  • Collaborate with naval architects on hull-to-machinery integration, weight, LCG, foundations
  • Release drawings, GD&T, BOMs; drive DFM/DFA with manufacturing and supply chain
  • Build and execute test plans on bench, dock, and water; iterate design from data
  • Partner with electrical and controls engineers to integrate Arc's powertrain into the vessel
  • Support propulsion and drivetrain system design (shafting, mounts, bearings, etc.)
  • Support USCG/ABS compliance and evaluate suppliers for critical hardware
  • Up to 15% travel
