Job summary

Michael Foods, Inc. in Norwalk, Iowa, is seeking a Safety Assistant to support the Safety Department, assist with training and orientation, and review safety materials.

This role contributes to a safe work environment and regulatory compliance across the facility. The position requires a minimum of 2 years’ health and safety experience in manufacturing, plus an associate degree or two-year technical training.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in health and safety within a manufacturing environment.
• Associate degree (A.S., A.A.) or two-year technical training beyond high school in basic office skills, with at least 1 year of related experience; or equivalent education/experience.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient computer skills: Outlook, Access, Word, PowerPoint and Excel; strong OSHA knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Identify unsafe work conditions and practices and document actions to eliminate them.
• Monitor safety data such as inspections, exposures, injuries, and SDS programs.
• Perform safety audits and inspections as directed by the Safety Supervisor.
• Assist with investigation of unsafe acts/conditions and ergonomic incidents.
• Coordinate safety committees and training sessions for employees.
