Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a Manufacturing Engineering Manager to optimize plant equipment and process flow in a latex paint/colorant and resin manufacturing facility. You will lead maintenance teams, implement TPM, and drive reliability across the plant.

Responsibilities

Job description

• Optimize plant equipment and process flow within the facility
• Evaluate processes to improve employee safety, product quality, and operational cost efficiency
• Interface daily with operations to identify and resolve problems
• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve equipment issues
• Coordinate equipment development, capital equipment, procurement, and engineering project implementation
• Specify and implement process control procedures and introduce new processes and equipment
• Provide technical support to manufacturing using proven problem-solving methodologies
• Manage and coordinate Maintenance Department efforts by setting equipment standards, implementing TPM, and achieving equipment performance metrics
• Design and develop new and modified equipment; produce functional drawings, procure equipment, and implement solutions
• Conduct operational studies to maximize workflow and spatial utilization
• Make critical decisions to maximize efficiency and manpower and troubleshoot issues
• Supervise department leads and support maintenance and production activities
• Manage 5–15 maintenance department employees responsible for equipment and facility repairs and troubleshooting
• Monitor attendance, performance goals, employee conduct, and minor disputes
• Write, review, and update work instructions
• Audit team work for safety, quality, and productivity; measure and report department effectiveness
• Adjust staffing levels, shift schedules, and overtime requirements to meet production demand
• Train and coach employees on safety, quality, and work processes
• Define equipment requirements and specifications
• Optimize equipment performance for efficiency and capacity
• Manage plant-wide facilities, maintenance, upgrades, installation, and equipment reliability in a latex paint/colorant and resin manufacturing facility
• Implement new equipment and modifications to improve plant efficiency and performance yields
• Lead troubleshooting of process and equipment issues
• Develop short- and long-term strategies and improvement programs
• Participate in and implement continuous improvement and lean manufacturing projects
• Improve quality, material flow, throughput, productivity, and OEE
• Organize project needs and implementations, including cost projections, workforce and facility impact, and risk assessment
• Ensure safety, environmental, and regulatory guidelines are followed
• Communicate and enforce safety regulations and company policies
• Manage hazardous and non-hazardous waste according to regulations
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• BS in Engineering from an ABET Accredited Engineering Program, preferably BSME
• Previous leadership experience providing direct oversight of employee assignments, performance evaluation, accountability for results, and coordination with other departments in a manufacturing or distribution environment
• Exposure to PLC control systems, AC/DC circuits, drive systems, and basic machine controls
• Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment with salaried and hourly personnel
• Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain area Reliability programs and address short-term equipment operation issues
• Ability to work in the plant reacting to problems and improvements/solutions
• Demonstrated success leading maintenance and installation efforts in a high-volume batch manufacturing facility
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently, set priorities, drive results, and work on a production team
• Strong leadership skills
• Computer skills including Microsoft Project, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, AutoCAD, and SAP
• Assignments in various manufacturing departments considered an asset
• Experience with automation controls, mechanical engineering, and process engineering considered a plus
• Frequent sitting, standing, bending/twisting of neck and waist, squatting, and kneeling
• Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects from floor, conveyor, vehicle, table, or overhead location
• Ability to climb and descend stairs
