Job summary

Steel & O'Brien Manufacturing is seeking an HR Specialist to support a dynamic manufacturing workforce with accurate HR processes, payroll, attendance, benefits and employee programs. You will partner with supervisors and staffing agencies while handling confidential information with discretion.

The role emphasizes recruiting, performance management and training, with responsibilities across timekeeping, attendance, payroll support and open enrollment.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in HR or related field required; bachelor’s preferred.
• 2+ years HR experience, manufacturing or distribution setting preferred.
• HR certifications such as aPHR, PHR, or SHRM-CP are a plus.
• Knowledge of labor laws, safety standards and HR best practices.
• Ability to meet physical demands including sitting for extended periods and lifting up to 15 pounds.
• Occasional travel by car and air may be required.

Responsibilities

• Build positive relationships and foster an inclusive environment.
• Process and maintain HR documentation and employee records.
• Coordinate recruiting activities within your area of responsibility.
• Liaise with temporary staffing agencies, submit payroll, and process invoices.
• Support biweekly payroll by answering questions on time and attendance.
• Monitor attendance, address excessive absences, and support disciplinary actions.
• Support performance management and annual reviews with supervisors.
• Assist employees with benefits questions and policy explanations.
• Prepare routine HR reports for management.
• Assist with HR projects such as employee events, benefits open enrollment, and trainings.
• Prepare and edit professional documents and correspondence.
• Protect confidentiality and comply with laws and company policies.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
