Job summary

Crane Company seeks a Manufacturing Engineer Intern to support production on the shop floor, performing troubleshooting and root cause analysis to maintain safety, quality and throughput. You will design and implement tooling and process changes to improve manufacturing efficiency and cost outcomes.

The role involves leading cost-reduction projects from ideation to implementation and owning continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing operations.

Qualifications

• In pursuit of a B.S. in Engineering or related field.
• Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills.
• Exposure to lean manufacturing, Six Sigma and 5S practices is a plus.
• Proficient with data analysis, statistics and applied mathematics.
• Basic understanding of industrial assembly, fabrication and machining.

Responsibilities

• Supports safe, efficient, productive and economical operations.
• Develops routings, tool lists, fixtures and process instructions.
• Creates work instructions and standard work documents.
• Drives waste reduction through lean and CBS methodologies.
• Addresses production stoppages and uses 5 whys for countermeasures.
• Trains operators on manufacturing methods to boost productivity.
• Coordinates purchase of materials and tooling as needed.
• Implements tooling and fixture changes.
• Supports new process and product development implementation.
• Assists with value stream mapping and continuous improvement plans.
• Audits and improves existing processes.
• Solves daily manufacturing process problems on the floor.
• Tries out experimental commercial tooling and reduces cycle times.
• Improves area layouts and material flow.
• Assists with daily assembly problems and capital equipment installations.
• Participates actively in CI and quality projects.
