Crane Company is seeking a Manufacturing Engineering Co-op to support continuous improvement and operational excellence on the production floor. You will gain hands-on experience in process optimization, facility layout, Lean practices, and standard work documentation while collaborating with engineering and production teams.

The role involves time studies, data analysis, ergonomics and 5S, and exposure to cobots and optical inspection technologies.

Qualifications

• Sophomore or higher standing in an engineering/science discipline.
• Experience with CAD software, preferably SolidWorks.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and detail-oriented mindset.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Willingness to work directly on the production floor in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Self-motivated with a desire to learn and contribute to a team.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain facility layout drawings for production and support areas using CAD.
• Analyze workflows and propose Lean-based improvements to process flow and space utilization.
• Conduct time studies and maintain manufacturing labor standards.
• Create and update standard work documentation and procedures.
• Evaluate data collection systems and support improvement implementations.
• Assess ergonomics, safety, and 5S compliance.
• Support development, testing, and improvement of methods, processes, and equipment.
• Analyze workflow, layouts, and production needs to boost efficiency.
• Collect and summarize data to identify trends for decision-making.
• Investigate issues, identify root causes, and assist corrective actions.
• Research opportunities for cobots and optical inspection in flow cells.
• Maintain high product quality through organization and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on engineering projects as needed.
