Job summary

Hoover & Strong, Inc. in Richmond, VA, is seeking a Staff Accountant to join a Lean manufacturing environment.

You will perform core accounting with a strong emphasis on costing, inventory and manufacturing activity, partnering with Production and Finance leadership to reflect activity in financial records and improve controls. Daily tasks include analyzing movements, cycle counts, profitability of sales BOMs, and building financial models; monthly close, reconciliations, and support for audits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required.
• 3–6 years of accounting experience.
• Cost accounting experience in manufacturing is a plus.
• Strong Excel skills required.
• Experience with ERP systems, especially Microsoft Dynamics Business Central, is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Partner with Production and Finance to understand inventory flows and improve related controls and processes.
• Analyze product and material movement, including purchases, internal transfers, production activity, and sales.
• Perform month-end close, journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations.
• Support ERP changes, testing, and data integrity.
• Investigate inventory discrepancies and root causes; implement corrective actions.
• Assist with audits and monthly financial reporting.
