Description & Requirements
Are you an equine veterinarian who enjoys leading a team, practicing high-quality medicine, and building strong relationships with clients and colleagues? San Antonio Equine Hospital is seeking a Medical Director / Managing DVM to provide clinical leadership and help guide the continued growth of the practice. This is an opportunity to shape the hospital's medical direction, support and develop a talented team, and work closely with the Practice Manager to create a positive, cohesive environment for both employees and clients.
The Medical Director and Practice Manager are expected to function as a unified leadership team. The MDVM brings clinical perspective and medical leadership, while partnering closely with the PM on hospital operations, team development, communication, and shared goals. - Leadership Partnership: Work in close partnership with the Practice Manager as a unified hospital leadership team. Collaborate on practice priorities, planning, problem‑solving, and decisions that affect the hospital and its people. Maintain regular, transparent communication; align before communicating significant decisions or changes; and ensure veterinarians and support staff receive clear, consistent expectations and information.
- Team Development: Mentor, support, and engage veterinarians, technicians, and support staff. Help foster a respectful, collaborative workplace where team members feel informed, supported, and accountable. Partner with the PM on performance feedback, team development, and addressing concerns.
- Medical Standards & Case Management: Support appropriate case oversight, diagnostic and treatment planning, medical protocols, and communication around complex cases. Encourage collaboration and consultation among doctors and promote continuity of care.
- Client Relationships & Practice Growth: Build and maintain strong client relationships, support client retention, and identify opportunities to strengthen the hospital’s services and reach. Work with the PM and veterinary team to pursue sustainable growth while maintaining quality of care.
- Service Development: Support the continued development of the practice’s clinical services in alignment with client needs, hospital priorities, and the interests and strengths of the veterinary team. An interest or experience in sports medicine is welcome, with opportunities to contribute in this area collaboratively alongside the existing team.
- Operations & Resource Planning: Partner with the PM on operational priorities that affect medical care, including equipment and facility needs, resource planning, workflow, and implementation of practice initiatives.
- Education & Continuous Improvement: Encourage ongoing learning, professional development, and the thoughtful adoption of advances in equine veterinary medicine. Help identify opportunities to improve medical quality, team effectiveness, and the client experience.
