Job summary

National Veterinary Associates, Inc. is seeking a Medical Director / Managing DVM for San Antonio Equine Hospital. The role combines clinical leadership with hospital operations to guide growth and maintain high patient care standards.

You will partner with the Practice Manager to align on priorities, mentor staff, and enhance client relationships while advancing equine medicine and ambulatory services within a collaborative team.

Qualifications

• DVM degree from an AVMA-accredited program.
• Experience in equine veterinary medicine with high patient-care standards.
• Prior leadership, mentoring, or team development experience; formal medical leadership a plus.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with a Practice Manager and team.
• Ability to balance independent clinical decisions with shared leadership and accountability.
• Interest in sports medicine or ambulatory services is welcome.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality equine veterinary care in hospital and ambulatory settings.
• Lead in partnership with the Practice Manager as a unified leadership team.
• Mentor and develop veterinarians, technicians, and support staff.
• Oversee medical standards, case management, and treatment planning.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships and pursue growth opportunities.
• Support development of clinical services aligned with hospital priorities and client needs.
• Plan operations with the Practice Manager, including equipment and facility needs.
• Encourage ongoing education and adoption of advances in equine medicine.
