Job summary

The MASS LEGAL ASSISTANCE CORP seeks a Managing Attorney in Boston, MA to lead PLS’s litigation and advocacy staff, supervise Senior Attorneys, and ensure high-quality, client-centered representation aligned with our mission. You will oversee litigation strategy, mentorship, and policy development while collaborating with leadership on strategic planning and external relations.

Qualifications

• Massachusetts bar admission in good standing; federal bar admission or eligibility within 1 year.
• Hybrid in-office presence in Boston, MA; availability Mon–Fri as needed.
• Min 8 years civil litigation experience; at least 5 years in supervision.
• Demonstrated leadership, mentorship, and staff development.
• Strong analytical, organizational and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership, strategic direction and day-to-day supervision to attorneys and Senior Attorneys.
• Develop and advance litigation strategy with the Litigation Director; allocate staffing across cases.
• Collaborate with Pro Bono counsel to refer cases and strengthen capacity.
• Review policy and litigation-related documents; ensure compliance with funder requirements.
• Maintain records and reporting on litigation; manage internal case management systems.
• Communicate with staff and Board about hearings, decisions and litigation developments.
• Participate in outreach, education and fundraising as needed.
