Job Description

Location: Bronx, NY

Organization: McCarton Foundation / McCarton Center Bronx

Employment Type: Full-time, Exempt

Salary Range: $95,000 - $110,000

Reports to: Chief Operating Officer

About Us

The McCarton Foundation is a nonprofit dedicated to transforming what is possible for young children with autism and developmental delays in the Bronx. We provide deeply personalized, interdisciplinary care that helps children ages 2 to 3 build the strongest possible foundation for lifelong growth.

We are not a traditional organization, and we do not aim to be. Since opening our doors in 2018, we have grown quickly, reimagined our systems, and built a community grounded in compassion, creativity, and action. We have served more than 2,000 children and families in one of the most underserved communities in the country, and we are just getting started.

Inspired by the vision of developmental pediatrician Dr. Cecelia McCarton, we set out to provide the kind of care every child deserves but not every child receives. This is a place for mission-driven professionals who want their work to matter. People who lead with heart, think boldly, and show up for children, families, and each other every single day.

Your Role and Impact

At McCarton, Human Resources is not just about policies or paperwork. It is about creating the conditions for people to thrive. As our Manager of Human Resources, you will play a key role in shaping how we lead, support, and grow our team.

You will guide a small but high-impact HR department and serve as a strategic partner to leadership across the organization. Your work will span people management, recruitment, compliance, staff development, and organizational culture, always with an eye toward clarity, care, and long-term sustainability. You will help us stay ahead of growth by designing systems that are thoughtful, scalable, and grounded in our values.

This role is ideal for someone who is proactive and adaptive, who understands the complexity of managing people in a dynamic environment, and who can support both staff and supervisors through change. You will be responsible for setting clear expectations, building accountability systems, and ensuring that all staff feel seen, supported, and empowered to do their best work.

If you believe HR can be both strategic and deeply human, and you are excited to help build a people-first organization that delivers life-changing care, we want to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities

People Leadership and Culture

  • Lead, support, and manage a team of 3 dedicated HR professionals.
  • Serve as a trusted resource and advisor for staff and managers at all levels
  • Help shape a workplace culture rooted in equity, and shared purpose
  • Guide supervisors in managing performance, resolving conflict, and building strong teams

Strategy and Systems

  • Design and improve HR systems and workflows that support organizational growth
  • Align HR operations with long-term goals, staffing needs, and compliance requirements
  • Maintain and refine systems across TriNet, Salesforce, and Stratustime
  • Track and analyze HR data to inform decisions and identify areas for improvement

Talent and Recruitment

  • Build and execute a strategic recruitment plan in partnership with hiring managers
  • Ensure a strong candidate experience from outreach to onboarding
  • Help the organization attract, hire, and retain mission-aligned talent

Compliance and Operations

  • Oversee onboarding, credentialing, benefits administration, and offboarding
  • Ensure compliance with NYC labor law, Article 47 (Department of Health), and Early Intervention requirements
  • Regularly review and update HR policies, internal procedures, and the employee handbook
  • Stay current with employment laws and best practices to ensure compliance and minimize risk

Who You Are

  • A humble, strategic leader who brings both clarity and compassion to your work
  • Deeply people-focused, with a commitment to meeting individuals where they are and helping them grow
  • Skilled in navigating diverse communication styles and attuned to different ways people express themselves, including neurodiverse expressions
  • Passionate about creating inclusive, equitable environments where everyone feels respected and valued
  • Comfortable working through ambiguity and shifting expectations, especially in fast-paced nonprofit settings
  • A strong communicator who listens with intention, speaks with care, and builds trust across teams
  • Motivated by mission-driven work and energized by helping others succeed
  • Someone who leads with integrity, curiosity, and a belief in the potential of every person
  • Detail-oriented and thoughtful about compliance, with an ability to manage regulations without losing sight of people

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s in HR, Business, or related field preferred
  • 5–7+ years of progressive HR experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership role
  • Strong experience in recruitment and talent strategy
  • Excellent communicator and listener with strong emotional intelligence

  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity and building systems in a growth-stage environment
