Our mission is to foster community, creative confidence, and lifelong learning through hands-on making.

Position Overview

We are looking for a versatile, organized, and community-driven Assistant Manager to help guide daily operations, run core programs, and support our growing maker community. In this role, you will wear many hats—balancing front-of-house administrative tasks with hands-on workshop facilitation, youth mentorship, and volunteer leadership.

The ideal candidate enjoys community engagement, has an aptitude for creative problem-solving, and is comfortable working with both beginners and experienced makers.

Key Responsibilities1. General Office Management & Administration
  • Oversee day-to-day front desk operations, member check-ins, and tour facilitation.
  • Monitor office and shop supplies, placing orders and replenishing consumables as needed.
  • Manage general member inquiries via email, phone, and walk-ins in a welcoming, timely manner.
  • Assist in maintaining shop cleanliness, safety standards, and tool checkout procedures.
  • Recruit, onboard, and train makerspace volunteers, lab monitors, and workshop assistants.
  • Coordinate monthly volunteer schedules to ensure adequate coverage during peak open shop hours.
  • Recognize, engage, and support volunteers to foster a loyal, active community culture.
3. Event Planning & Coordination
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate public events, maker showcases, and seasonal community workshops.
  • Manage event logistics including space layout, material procurement, registration, and day-of setup/breakdown.
  • Partner with guest instructors and community groups to host diverse programming.
4. Youth Programming: "Teen Club"
  • Facilitate and supervise the weekly Teen Club, creating a safe, inclusive, and inspiring environment for middle and high school students.
  • Design engaging, project-based activities that build practical skills and spark curiosity.
  • Serve as a positive mentor, modeling safe tool usage, creative exploration, and collaborative problem-solving.
5. Crafting & Digital Fabrication Support
  • Assist members with entry-level digital fabrication equipment (e.g., 3D printers, laser cutters, vinyl cutters).
  • Support basic crafting activities (e.g., printmaking, basic woodworking, electronics/soldering, or textiles).
  • Enforce shop safety rules and assist with basic equipment upkeep and troubleshooting.
  • Manage and create content for Social Medium’s social channels (Instagram, Facebook, newsletter, etc.).
  • Showcase member projects, highlight workshops, promote events, and celebrate community accomplishments.
  • Help drive membership growth and program awareness through authentic visual storytelling.
QualificationsRequired:
  • 1–3 years of experience in administrative support, community center management, education, or event coordination.
  • Comfort and familiarity with basic digital fabrication equipment (e.g., 3D printers, laser cutters) and/or traditional crafting techniques.
  • Demonstrated experience working with youth, teens, or after-school enrichment programs.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational habits with the ability to prioritize diverse tasks independently.
  • Ability to work a flexible part-time schedule (20–30 hours/week), including some evenings and weekends.
Preferred:
  • Prior experience in a makerspace, community arts hub, library, or shared studio environment.
  • Basic photo/video editing or graphic design skills (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite).
  • Free full makerspace membership with unrestricted access to tools and equipment outside working hours.
  • Flexible scheduling options within core operating hours.
  • Employee discount on ticketed specialty workshops and retail materials.
