Job description

ABOUT THE ROLE

We're opening a new 9400 sq ft metal and wood shop, with a community space and gallery in North Oakland. The goal is to encourage creation, collaboration, and connection. We're looking for a Community Space Coordinator to work with our leadership to bring our art events and community educational programming to life. This is a rare opportunity to help shape both a culture and program from the ground floor.

You'll be the friendly, organized presence that keeps the public-facing side of our shop and space running smoothly - this includes managing our community contacts, our public calendar, and our twice weekly workshops and rotating gallery showings. You'll also help us tell our story through marketing and social media, and pitch in on a range of general administrative tasks. This role reports directly to the founders.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Public-Facing Operations (e.g., Serve as a welcoming point of contact for visitors, members, and community partners;
Help establish and maintain day-to-day operating norms for workshops and events in a brand-new space)
  • Contacts & Calendar Management (e.g., Set up and maintain a CRM to track community member contacts and partners, as well as to send monthly newsletters (we're considering Ghost for newsletter, but are open to your recommendation); Manage the outward-facing public calendar and event ticketing platform (we currently use Luma))
  • Workshops & Events (e.g., Coordinate the scheduling and logistics of twice weekly craft workshops and community learning events.; Help recruit and support workshop facilitators and instructors including existing benchholders; Support leadership team in creating a regular, appealing calendar of instructional programming)
  • Marketing & Social Media (e.g., Manage our Instagram presence, including content planning and posting; Help develop marketing materials to promote learning events and grow community awareness; Aid in creation of content for regular newsletter)
  • General Administration (e.g., Create processes to support the above, including a variety of administrative tasks from correspondence to possibly some basic record-keeping.)
WHO YOU ARE
EXPERIENCE

Experience level is flexible - we welcome applicants ranging from earlier-career candidates eager to grow into the role to those with meaningful relevant experience.

MUST HAVE:
  • Social media experience and enjoy posting/messaging.
  • Past success in managing a busy calendar and/or a complex schedule
  • Knowledge about (or interest and ability to quickly learn) CRM tools
  • Ability to work with (or learn) other business applications, including website and ticketing tools (i.e., Squarespace, LUMA, etc)
HELPFUL EXPERIENCE:
  • Community building
  • Graphic design
  • Public relations
  • Artistic and/or craft practice
MINDSET
  • Collaborative and like working in teams
  • Organized and self-directed, able to juggle multiple ongoing projects, and get pleasure from checking tasks off your list.
  • A strong communicator who enjoys being the face of an organization both in person and in written communication.
  • Optimistic and curious: excited to reach out to new people to learn about them, make connections and bring people together so creative things can happen.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity - you're energized by the opportunity to help build norms and processes where they are not yet established.
SCHEDULE & COMPENSATION

Approximately 20-25 hours/week (part-time).

A set of regular days/hours in person in the shop will be established by mutual agreement (ideally Tues/Weds) with the selected candidate, with some flexibility for the remaining hours.

Sometimes, but not always, candidate may be asked to be on site early evening to support the Tues/Weds workshops offered by the shop

$25+ per hour depending on experience
