Job summary

South Suburban College seeks a Manager of the Maker’s Lab to oversee daily operations, maintenance, and growth of the Maker’s Lab. You will lead part-time lab assistants and volunteers while developing innovative STEM programming for students and the broader community.

You will maintain equipment, train staff, coordinate outreach, and promote the lab to local businesses. A background in engineering and CAD software is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in an engineering-related field (required).
• Experience with CAD/3D software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD.
• Experience with maker equipment (laser systems, 3D printers, CNC machines).
• Experience administering training on software and equipment listed above.

SUMMARY

The Manager of the Maker’s Lab is responsible for overseeing the daily operations, maintenance, and growth of the college’s Maker’s Lab, ensuring that equipment, software, and inventory are effectively managed and maintained. This position provides leadership and supervision to part-time laboratory assistants and volunteers while developing innovative STEM-based educational programming for students and the broader community.

• Maintain all Maker lab equipment, software and inventory in coordination with the appropriate college service departments.
• Train and supervise part-time laboratory assistants and volunteers.
• Develop and coordinate STEM programming for the college and greater community.
• Assist with STEM promotion and outreach by hosting events or participating in community and college events.
• Promote the Maker lab and its services to the local business community.
• Support college credit and non-credit programs
• Support partnerships with the local grammar and high school districts.

• Bachelor's Degree in an engineering-related field
• Experience with various CAD, 3D, 2D software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD
• Experience with use and maintenance of maker equipment including laser systems, 3D printers, CNC machines
• Experience administering training on the use of software and equipment listed above
• Must successfully pass a criminal background check

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• 2-3 years community college Teaching experience
• Experience developing and administering workshops in the Maker Lab setting
• Demonstrate ability to use technology in the classroom and laboratory
