Job summary

Mount St. Mary's University in Emmitsburg, MD is seeking a Maintenance Worker I to inspect, repair, and maintain campus facilities. The role involves basic plumbing/electrical tasks, equipment upkeep, and assisting other tradesmen.

A valid driver’s license and safety adherence are required; shifts may include overtime and some overnight duties during weather events. Typical hours are Monday–Friday, with possible adjustments for campus events or emergencies.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write and follow directions.
• Basic knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing and heating/cooling.
• 0-3 years of experience in a related trade or equivalent education.
• Adherence to safety rules per University Safety Policy.
• Valid driver’s license and good hygiene.

Responsibilities

Job description

Position Title: Maintenance Worker I Job Description:

• Identifies deficiencies and deviations from maintenance schedules and standards and performs inspection and inspection test of equipment and buildings.
• Performs general repairs/maintenance as well as minor plumbing and electrical repairs.
• Assists other mechanical maintenance tradesmen as directed.
• May operate light or heavy equipment, and maintain equipment and tools.
• Assists with snow removal as needed.
• Other job related duties as assigned.
• Overtime may be required.

Job Requirements:

• Ability to read, write and follow directions.
• Basic knowledge of fundamental mechanical, electrical, plumbing and heating/cooling.
• 0 - 3 years of experience in specific trade (i.e., plumbing, electrical, etc.) or equivalent education.
• Must be familiar with and adhere to all the safety rules and regulations for the University Safety Policy which apply to the work environment.
• Valid Driver’s license.
• Good hygiene and cleanliness is required at all times Must adhere to the company uniform policy.
• Maintain a clean vehicle and make office aware of maintenance issues Follow rules and regulations as described in the company Handbook.

Job Hours:

Typical hours are Monday - Friday 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. unless otherwise specified. Any schedule may be adjusted as needed and some overnights will be required with inclement weather events, campus events or campus emergencies.

Physical Requirements:

• Considerable physical activity.
• Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds.
• Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of job.
• Must be able to lift and carry heavy items up and down stairs.
• Must be able to spend significant amount of time outside in all weather conditions.
• Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.
• Work involves almost constant exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, toxic chemicals, biohazardous materials, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and/or loud noises.

Salary/Benefits:

• Minimum Pay Rate: $15.00/hour
