Job summary

The City of Virginia Beach is seeking a Maintenance Worker to join the Public Works CCTV Inspections group. You will assist with CCTV inspections of stormwater drainage systems and perform hands-on maintenance tasks in varying weather.

Responsibilities include loading materials, cleaning structures, and carrying equipment to sites. A valid VA/NC driver’s license is required, along with a pre-employment physical and safety PPE. This role is open until filled.

Qualifications

• Completion of 7th grade plus one year of related public works experience.
• May require valid VA or NC driver’s license.
• Position is safety sensitive and requires drug testing.
• A pre-employment physical is required.
• May require PPE such as steel-toed boots, safety glasses, gloves.

Responsibilities

• Assist CCTV inspections of stormwater drainage systems.
• Perform loading and unloading of materials and supplies.
• Clean and maintain stormwater drainage structures (culverts, manholes, pipes).
• Carry tools and equipment to job sites; operate as needed.
• Serve as a flagger to direct traffic around construction zones.

Apply now to join an organization where you truly make a difference.Job Duties and Preferred Qualifications:The City of Virginia Beach is recruiting a Maintenance Worker to join the Public Works Operations CCTV Inspections group.Occasionally operate light automotive equipment and specialized maintenance equipment, such as a concrete saw, pole saw, etc.Assist with closed-circuit television (CCTV) inspections of the City’s stormwater drainage systems.Assist in loading and unloading materials.Assist with the cleaning and maintenance of stormwater drainage structures, including culverts, manholes, pipe mains, concrete, metal, and plastic pipes.Perform a variety of manual tasks to maintain our drainage ditches and systems.Perform minor repairs on equipment.Carries tools, equipment, and supplies to/from the job site by truck and/or by hand.Serves as a flagger to direct traffic around construction on the roadways.Individual assignments will be determined by the supervisor based on the current workloads and department needs.Must have a VA or NC Driver’s LicenseA pre-employment physical is required.This position is ALPHA 1 and is required to work during all inclement weather (flooding, hurricanes, snow, etc.)This position is open until filled. Special Requirements: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. May require a valid driver’s license. This position may require that incumbents wear and maintain appropriate personal protective equipment such as, but not limited to, steel toed shoes, safety glasses, gloves, or other designated safety attire and equipment in designated areas of risk. Specific requirements will be determined and communicated by the employee’s supervisor based on position assigned. This is a safety sensitive position and is subject to mandatory drug testing.
