This position will assist the Street Maintenance group of Public Works with the following duties:Operate a dump truck in connection with the transportation of sand, stone, gravel, and asphalt.Operate a light truck in carrying tools, equipment, and supplies to and from repair jobs.Operate a motor truck engaged in snow removal or sanding of icy streets and roads.Operate a Motor Grader to level soil.Operate a Broom Truck for maintenance.Operate the pothole patcher truck in the repair of minor roadway defects.Operate the pothole patcher truck in the repair of minor roadway defects.Assist in loading and unloading materials and equipment transported by truck.Perform other job duties requiring skills, knowledge, and physical requirements as demanded by those duties described or less.Individual assignments will be assigned by the supervisor based on the current workloads and department needs.Work Schedule: Monday – Thursday; 6:30 am – 5 pm, some weekends and nights based on event schedule.Must possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (VA or NC).CDL Hiring Bonus: Newly hired employees with a valid Class A or B CDL will be eligible for a $4,000 hiring bonus paid in three increments during the first year of employment:$1,000 with the first paycheck$1,000 in the first pay period following the six-month interim eval (with \"meets expectations\" performance rating)$2,000 at conclusion of probationary period (with \"meets expectations\" performance rating)The City of Virginia Beach complies with all federal mandates related to positions requiring a Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
