Job summary

Stonington Public Schools seeks a General Maintenance Worker to help maintain and repair district facilities and grounds. The role supports custodial operations and requires strength, the ability to read and follow instructions, and the capacity to work with town staff and contractors. Typical shifts are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m.

to 3 p.m., totaling 40 hours per week. Start date is November 1, 2026; compensation is governed by the Maintenance and Custodial Workers Collective Bargaining

Qualifications

• Completion of a vocational-technical school program in a trade area and two years of trades experience.
• Working knowledge of building maintenance and its related systems.
• Ability to lift fifty (50) pounds or more.
• A working knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions.
• Ability to apply common sense and understanding when carrying out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form.
• Ability to read.
• Ability to describe orally or in writing repair or maintenance problems as necessary.
• Must be able to work cooperatively with town department personnel and private contractors.
• A Connecticut Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is desirable. A Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operator's license is required
• Ability to drive and maintain equipment, including but not limited to vans, equipment trucks, tractors, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS

• The skills and knowledge required would generally be acquired with completion of a vocational-technical school program in a trade area and two years of trades experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• A working knowledge of building maintenance and its related systems.
• Ability to lift fifty (50) pounds or more.
• A working knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions.
• Ability to maintain upgrades and changes in systems and equipment.
• Ability to apply common sense and understanding when carrying out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure.
• Ability to read.
• Ability to describe orally or in writing repair or maintenance problems as necessary.
• Must be able to work cooperatively with town department personnel and private contractors.
• A Connecticut Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is desirable. A Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operator's license is required
