Stonington Public Schools seeks a General Maintenance Worker to uphold facilities across the district. The role features a Monday through Friday schedule, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a 40-hour work week, starting November 1, 2026.

The ideal candidate will have a vocational-technical background and at least two years of trades experience, plus a working knowledge of building systems and safety practices. A CT CDL is desirable, with a CT driver’s license required.

Qualifications

• Trade/technical program completed in a relevant field.
• Two years of trades experience or equivalent.
• Working knowledge of building maintenance and systems.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds or more.
• Knowledge of safety precautions and protocols.
• Ability to read and follow written or diagrammatic instructions.
• Ability to perform basic math for measurements.
• Must work cooperatively with town personnel and contractors.
• Connecticut CDL (Class B) desirable; CT driver's license required.
• Ability to drive and maintain equipment.

POSITION: General Maintenance Worker

REMUNERATION: Maintenance and Custodial Workers Collective Bargaining Agreement

WORKDAYS and HOURS: Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.; 40 hours per week

Qualifications

• The skills and knowledge required would generally be acquired with completion of a vocational-technical school program in a trade area and two years of trades experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• A working knowledge of building maintenance and its related systems.
• Ability to lift fifty (50) pounds or more.
• A working knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions.
• Ability to maintain upgrades and changes in systems and equipment.
• Ability to apply common sense and understanding when carrying out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure.
• Ability to read.
• Ability to describe orally or in writing repair or maintenance problems as necessary.
• Must be able to work cooperatively with town department personnel and private contractors.
• A Connecticut Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is desirable. A Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operator's license is required
• Ability to drive and maintain equipment, including but not limited to vans, equipment trucks, tractors, etc.
