Job summary

Pleasant View Home is seeking a Maintenance Worker to ensure the safety and efficiency of the facility and its grounds. Responsibilities include performing maintenance tasks, following safety regulations, and working under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor. Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma and be physically capable of handling maintenance duties, with on-the-job training provided.

Description

Purpose:

Under the supervision of the Director of Environmental Services, the primary purpose of the Maintenance Worker is to maintain the grounds, facility, and equipment in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with current applicable federal , state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations, our established policies and procedures, and as may be directed by the supervisor, to assure that a successful maintenance program is maintained at all times.

Supervision:

The Maintenance Worker must report to the Maintenance Supervisor or Director of Environmental Services or other person assigned to them at the start of each shift, before leaving the facility, whether on break or for another purpose. The employee is accountable for designating another employee to monitor assigned duties during the time of absence.

Experience:

None required. On-the-job training will be provided.

Work Schedule:

The Maintenance Worker will work a mutually agreed upon schedule. A 30-minute unpaid, uninterrupted lunch period is recommended. The Maintenance Worker reports promptly to the Maintenance Building at the start of each shift and becomes informed on current issues from the previous shift.

Physical, Emotional and Interpersonal Requirements:

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Clearly read, speak and write the English language
  • See, hear or use prosthetic devices to enable use of the senses adequately.
  • Sit, stand, bend, stoop, and move for extended periods of time.
  • Use hands and fingers to operate equipment.
  • Lift, move, push or pull a minimum of 50 pounds
  • Be licensed in accordance with current state applicable standards, if any, codes, labor laws, etc.
  • Deal tactfully with personnel, residents, visitors and the general public.
  • Work harmoniously with other department personnel and supervise non-professional personnel.
  • Have the ability to minimize waste of supplies, misuse of equipment, etc.
  • Be able to follow written and oral instructions.

Essential Functions (with or without reasonable accommodation):

The following job functions have been determined as essential to the position of Maintenance Worker at Pleasant View Home.

  1. Receive and follow maintenance schedule/instructions from your supervisor and as outlined in our established maintenance policies and procedures.
  2. Perform routine maintenance on grounds, parking areas, driveways etc., by cutting, trimming, policing, sweeping etc., as necessary/directed.
  3. Perform routine maintenance and repair on the facility and equipment to include plumbing, plastering, electrical, carpentry, mechanical, etc., as directed, in accordance with established procedures.
  4. Clean windows and screens as directed.
  5. Replace burned out light bulbs, to include exit lights, overhead lights, fluorescent lights, room call lights, etc., and perform cleaning duties wherever necessary.
  6. Service heating and cooling units/systems, as specified by the manufacturer, and in compliance with established policies and procedures.
  7. Perform unscheduled maintenance tasks as directed.
  8. Follow all established safety procedures and precautions when performing maintenance service.
  9. Maintain the general plant and facility in good repair, ensuring a safe, clean and orderly environment.
  10. Report all incidents/accidents, no matter how minor, to your supervisor immediately. (NOTE: Such occurrences must be reported on the shift in which they occur.)
  11. Report all unsafe/hazardous conditions, defective equipment, etc., to your supervisor immediately.
  12. Assure that work/assignment areas are clean and equipment, tools, supplies, etc., are properly stored before leaving such areas on breaks, end of workday, etc.
  13. Keep your work area(s) free of hazardous conditions, i.e., grease/oil spills, excess supplies, equipment, etc., to ensure that all established safety rules/regulations are followed at all times.
  14. Ensure that established Infection Control and Universal Precautions practices are maintained when performing maintenance procedures.
  15. Coordinate routine/terminal isolation procedures with Nursing Services.
  16. Follow established fire safety policies and procedures.
  17. Dispose of refuse daily in accordance with our established sanitation procedures.
  18. Use protective clothing/devices when performing tasks that involve the handling of infectious waste and/or blood/body fluids.
  19. Other(s) that may become necessary/appropriate to assure that our facility is maintained in a safe and comfortable manner.
  20. Report equipment malfunctions or breakdowns to your supervisor as soon as possible.
  21. Ensure maintenance supplies have been replenished in work areas, as necessary.
  22. Ensure that the facility and its equipment is properly maintained for resident comfort and convenience.
  23. Follow established safety precautions when performing tasks and when using equipment and supplies.
  24. Keep supervisor informed of supply needs.
  25. Assure that maintenance schedules are followed as outlined .for respective shift or area.
  26. Other related duties as may become necessary or as directed by your supervisor, department director, and/or administrator.
  27. Attend and participate in in-service educational classes and on-the-job training programs.
  28. Attend and participate in workshops, seminars, etc., as directed.
  29. Other related duties and activities as may become necessary or as directed by the Administrator.

Summary of Occupational Exposures:

The employee must avoid exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious diseases and air contaminants by following the procedures for infection prevention and exposure control.

Tasks and procedures performed by employees involve risks classified by CDC as:

Category III. Tasks do not involve any risk of exposure to blood and body fluids.
