The County of Volusia is seeking an experienced Senior Maintenance Worker for the Coastal Division. This position is located in various coastal locations throughout the County of Volusia. The role involves maintaining public restrooms, beachside parks, wooden beach walkover structures, and vehicle ramps providing access to the beach. Responsibilities include performing general maintenance activities such as light carpentry, electrical, mechanical, painting, and plumbing.
Work Conditions: Candidate must be willing to work under all weather conditions, including early and late shifts, weekends, and holidays. Work shifts range from 6:00 AM to 9:30 PM, Monday through Sunday, including weekends and holidays.

- Performs work at lower levels.
- Operates equipment such as chainsaws, power washers, and landscaping tools. May operate trucks, tractors, and other machinery.
- Assists trades workers with laying out work and maintaining coastal assets.
- Supports repair technicians and journeymen in field maintenance and equipment servicing.
- Handles application and storage of herbicides and insecticides.
- Assists with construction tasks including brick laying, pipe laying, painting, carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, and roofing.
- May serve as a lead worker on small crews.
- Attends work regularly and adheres to safety and operational policies.
- Responds to emergency situations and may be assigned to different locations as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED and two (2) years of experience in construction or general maintenance.
- OR High School diploma or GED and one (1) year of experience as a Maintenance Worker.
- Equivalent education/training may substitute for experience, including janitorial, landscaping, carpentry, or park maintenance.
- Possession of Public Health Pest Control certification within six months may be required.
- Valid Florida driver's license is required.
- Knowledge of maintenance, groundskeeping, and construction equipment.
- Understanding of safety hazards and precautions.
- Ability to operate light trucks, trailers, small tractors, and mowers.
- Effective communication and ability to work under stress.
- Ability to relocate within the county as needed.
ADA Requirements:
Physical ability to see, hear, lift (75 lbs.), climb, and work in various environmental conditions including inclement weather and exposure to chemicals, dust, and noise.
Mental ability to comprehend instructions, perform basic math, and communicate effectively.
